Health Expectancies

Health expectancy is a summary measure of population health combining information about length and quality of life into a single metric. It gives the number of remaining years expected to be lived in a specific health state at a particular age. We present here the results for different definitions of the health component:

Healthy life years

This indicator is based on the Global Activity Limitation Instrument (GALI) (https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php/Glossary:Activity_limitation)

Life expectancy in good/bad self-rated health

This indicator is based on the question 'How is your health in general?'

Life expectancy without/with chronic morbidity

This indicator is based on the question 'Do you suffer from (have) any chronic (long-standing) illness or condition (health problem)?'
